Conservation & Advocacy
ADK is the champion of nearly 5 million acres of publicly owned lands across New York State, including the Adirondack and Catskill forest preserves, state parks, state forests, and wildlife management areas. ADK engages in advocacy to promote responsible public policies to protect these lands and to ensure they remain accessible to the public for appropriate recreation.
As a member-directed organization, ADK relies on the skills, hard work and commitment of volunteers to accomplish its mission both in the Finger Lakes and the broader organization. We offer numerous opportunities to get involved and make a difference.
We offer hikes, paddling trips, and other outings year-round, both in the Adirondacks and closer to home. ADK outings are rated for difficulty and led by experienced hikers and paddlers. There is no charge to participate in outings, and many are open to nonmembers.
